Client: Felix Jonz

Timeline: 2 Years

Project Description

From 2019-2021 I worked with FelixJonz Design build as an interior architecture consultant helping to envision and render the project precedents.

We designed and built two properties W12 and Hamilton both located in Vancouver BC.

Relevance

While I’d some architectural rendering projects before, none had come to life or been built. These we’re my first works that actually made it into production.

The story of Hamilton

Hamilton was a collaborative project between Sonia Felix and Leo Felix at FelixJonz Design Build. We worked together to redesign and reimagine Hamilton. A studio loft space located in the heart of Yaletown Vancouver. Our new vision for the space was an open concept bachelor pad with a state of the art kitchen for entertaining guests and hosting parties. We we’re inspired by the matte black minimal kitchen trends in 2020 after visiting the Biennale in Milan.

Early architecture renderings of the space. Featuring a long and narrow kitchen island, recessed and flush living room storage and a seamless open concept living space between bedroom, living and kitchen.

The bathroom is a brutalist and exposed industrial style with brick, pipes and structural steel columns exposed throughout.

W12 Before & After

The Kitchen of W12. Featuring a linear down and up-lit backsplash with adjacent appliance garage and marble columns.

Master Bathroom after renovation.

Originally a split bathroom and utility closet.

Open concept dining room.

Closed concept and dimly lit original dining room.

Open concept living space with updated marble fireplace.

Original fireplace and lighting.

Updated yard space with white walls and seagrass.

Original neglected yard space.

The story of W12

W12 located on West 12th and Burrard St. Kitsilano. Vancouver, BC. Was the second renovation project from FelixJonz Design build. We collaborated to design, remodel, and stage the project.

While the original renders are lost to time, we did retain the original photos from the listing inspection. As you can see we worked hard to lighten up the space, bring in lush natural light from the surroundings and modernize the space with intricate details like flush mounted lighting, the floating podium bathtub and shower and the appliance garage among other unique storage innovations.

From idea to production, for the first time my design ideas made it into the real world.

While we had a limited run, these design build projects were the first time I could definitively point to my architectural work in the real world and say I designed that, my work is out there being enjoyed.

These two projects we’ren’t perfect by any stretch and looking back as a grown designer there are many point of improvement we could have considered. But I continue to be happy with these refreshed living spaces.
