Iris Photobooth

Date: 01/03/2017

Client: Sue Siri

Timeline: 3 Months

Project Description

The idea behind the Iris Photobooth was to create a new kind of photobooth specifically for creating professional quality headshots.

The design of the booth is circular to help differentiate it from other recreational photobooths and help it to stand out when people see it in public.

It’s designed to be implemented in office buildings and other public or semi private professional settings.

Relevance

This was my first professional project which I helped Sue Siri a family friend create when I was just 15 years old.

This project was created in Sketchup, with final details and manufacturing being done by a local design studio.

Can you design a photobooth?

I designed a circular photobooth that stands out from everything else on the market. It also conveniently allows for better light diffusion around the subject and is simple and modular to construct.

R&D

Here are some product photo which I found deep in my archives. These product photos we’re taken at St Mary’s University in Halifax. Nova Scotia. of the first working prototype of the booth.

it’s unfortunate that there aren’t more images of the original renders, the project files or the booth itself. This is all I could find in the archives and this product is currently discontinued.

This was the first time in my life where something I had imagined had been made real!

There’s a huge gulf between designing something and seeing it brough to fruition. Seeing my work alive in the world was one of the proudest moments in my early career.

While this project didn’t become the great success I’d hoped it would be. It served to help me continue to follow my passion. I knew that I had to pursue design as a career from this moment on.
